The Bank of Mum and Dad - How it really works

30 Jan 2019
The Bank of Mum and Dad is now the UK’s sixth largest lender but how does it really work?

In conjunction with the London School of Economics, our new report "The Bank of Mum and Dad: How it really works", reveals the results of an extensive academic study into how families approach parental help when buying a property.

In 2018 we contacted our customers and, using a combination of an online survey, focus group discussion and telephone interviews, we were able to explore how parents and grandparents are using family assets to help their children on the property ladder and what they really think about it.

Building on this real world experience, this has led us to produce the definitive guide in "How to run the Bank of Mum and Dad". Our guide shows how the Bank of Mum and Dad works and important things to consider, covering topics such as:

  • Fairness
  • Misunderstandings and misgivings
  • Taking advice
  • Having more than one child
  • Relationship breakdowns
  • Personal circumstances and what the future holds.
