Senior Account Director, Paul Roberts, and Business Development Manager, Nathan Waller, joined Anna Sagar, Deputy Editor at Mortgage Solutions, to discuss the evolving Expat mortgage market.

Part 1: Expat mortgage market is seeing younger customers and diverse geographies

Nathan and Paul join Anna at Mortgage Solutions to talk about the Expat mortgage market. Nathan Waller explains that the Expat mortgage market is no longer just for retirees, noting we’re seeing more and more younger customers moving abroad for work or lifestyle reasons. He highlights how digital nomad visas are enabling people to live overseas while still working for UK employers, and how cost‑of‑living comparisons are driving decisions. Traditional destinations like France and Spain remain popular, but demand is increasingly shifting toward the Gulf States, such as Saudi Arabia and Dubai, due to job opportunities and quality of life.

PART 2 - Expat Buy to Let Limited Company business will be growth area

In part 2 of our podcast series, we Paul discusses how Expat Buy to Let Limited Company business is set to be a growth area, offering brokers new opportunities to support landlords in a changing environment. He emphasised that this segment is evolving as Expats look to structure their property investments more efficiently, and brokers who understand lender criteria and company structures will be well placed to capture this demand.

PART 3 - Expat cases can lead to good referrals but headwinds remain on exchange rates and property prices

In part 3 of our podcast series, Paul and Nathan stress that Expat cases can lead to good referrals, creating valuable business opportunities for brokers. However, headwinds remain on exchange rates and property prices, which can impact affordability and investment returns. They discussed the importance of working closely with packagers to navigate lender rules, requirements, and income criteria, ensuring brokers can deliver the right solutions despite these challenges.
